Court consultation response to be published on April 9

THE Scottish Courts Service board has announced that its response to the courts consultation will be published on April 9 – making the long-term future of Rothesay Sheriff Court far clearer.

Proposals to close the Rothesay court facility and transfer all Bute’s civil and criminal business to Greenock attracted a storm of protest, from members of the public and local and national policitians, when it was published in September.

The planned closure of the Rothesay court facility was one of a range of cost-cutting proposals in the Scottish Courts Service’s consultation, ‘Future Court Structures’, which closed on December 21.

The consultation document estimated that closing the court in Rothesay would save the SCS £6,000 a year.
