There are proposals to erect a telecommunications mast at Ardmaleish to provide additional and improved telecommunications coverage to Bute.

The plans are part of a project by Telefónica UK and Vodafone Limited under their joint venture company, Cornerstone Telecommunication Infrastructure Ltd., and would include “improved 2G and 3G services in addition to the introduction of 4G services (high speed mobile broadband)”.

At this stage the company is in pre-consultation, and has not formally submitted a planning application to Argyll and Bute Council.

Bute Community Council, however, was contacted by the firm to seek views of councillors prior to the submission of an application.

Following a brief dicussion by members of BCC at Wednesday’s meeting in Port Bannatyne Village Hall, those present returned a unanimous vote of support for the plans.

A number of options were assessed in respect of the site search process and upgrading the existing base station at Ardmaleish was seen as the best option as it both complied with local and national planning policy as well as reduced visual impact to a minimum.

All installations are designed to be fully compliant with the public exposure guidelines established by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). These guidelines have the support of UK Government, the European Union and they also have the formal backing of the World Health Organisation.
