A public meeting is to take place in Rothesay this week to see whether Bute could benefit from the establishment of a ‘community sport hub’ on the island.
The meeting, at Bute Shinty Club in Meadows Road on Thursday, August 22 at 8pm, is open to all sports clubs and organisations on the island, or any group providing physical activity to community members.
Thursday’s meeting has been organised by Jillian Gibson, the newly-appointed ‘community sport hubs officer’ with Argyll and Bute Council.
The creation of community sport hubs across the country is the idea of sportScotland, the country’s national sport agency, as part of the Scottish Government’s ‘2014 Legacy’ plan for after next summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The aims of the hubs are to increase participation in sport, engage local communities, provide community leadership, offer a range of sporting opportunities and bring all appropriate partner groups together to provide information, support and advice on a wide range of physical activities, making it easier for local people to get involved and engage in a more active and healthier lifestyle.
