Rotary President Ralph Anderson recently presented a Community Service Award to island resident, Iain Gillespie, for his outstanding and voluntary service to the community on the island.

Iain has been a Bute Community Councillor for the past nine years, and has completed a myriad of voluntary community projects over the years from painting railings and bus shelters to regenerating areas of waste ground, local eyesores and creating attractive shrub areas in those spaces.

He is also involved with Bute in Bloom, the organisation that has successfully promoted Rothesay and the island in national competitions across the country.

He is currently refurbishing a memorial bench gifted a number of years ago by the Rotary Club of Rothesay and dedicated to the late Dr Morton. The bench has suffered the vagaries of our unpredictable weather and was in need of and is now receiving a Gillespie version of TLC!
