Police on Bute have issued a warning to motorists after an island resident received a hoax phone call, apparently from a local number, falsely telling her she had been involved in a road accident.

The concerned resident contacted police immediately after receiving the call, which appeared to come from a number with an 01700 area code.

The advice from police is similar to that given to guard against any such hoax calls - whether or not you know you’ve been involved in an accident, don’t give any personal or bank details over the phone, - and if you’re a motorist and have any concerns, contact your own insurance company directly.
