Bute Community Council discussed the issue of littering around Ardbeg and Port Bannatyne, following a letter which was published in The Buteman recently.

A letter which recently appeared in The Buteman regarding the issue of littering was discussed at Bute Community Council on Monday evening.

The letter, from Jude Dallas (published, The Buteman, November 15), criticised the condition of the beach between Ardbeg and Port Bannatyne following the bonfire night in the area, and was also sent to Bute Community Council.

Jude’s suggestions of increasing the number of rubbish bins in the area, enforcement of on the spot fines, and occupying people on job seekers for beach cleaning services were raised and debated.

Convener Grace Strong commented: “There are plenty of bins along that way – starting from the monument along to Ardbeg Point, so I don’t think that’s an issue.”

Martin Catlin said: “When I worked as a countryside ranger, there were posters in place telling the public to take your rubbish home. I think it’s an educational issue.”
