Argyll and Bute Council is “considering options” for the future of its office buildings in and around Rothesay.

A spokesperson for the authority told The Buteman that the organisation was “currently reviewing” its office accommodation in the town, which sees staff in different departments working in numerous locations.

No further detail was provided on what that review might mean, although its very existence is almost certain to lead to speculation that some buildings could be closed or sold.

We contacted the council after one of the authority’s employees, Joe Connell, wrote a letter to The Buteman suggesting that the former Rothesay Academy building on Chapelhill could be brought back into use by relocating all staff to the old school, freeing up the premises in High Street and Mountpleasant Road for sale on the open market.

* Read Mr Connell’s letter - and the council’s statement in full - in the January 3 edition of The Buteman, on sale now.
