Bute’s young people got into the spirit of the annual Children in Need appeal in style on Friday with a range of fun fund-raising activities.
The most eye-catching - if not, for the subject at least, the most fun-filled - of the day’s events was the sponsored leg wax undertaken by 17-year-old Rothesay Academy pupil Ryan Cobain, watched by more than a hundred of his fellow pupils.
The Academy’s senior pupils organised a range of activities during the day, including a home baking stall, a Cracker Challenge - as in, how many can you eat in 40 seconds? - and a ‘how many marshmallows can you fit in your mouth at once’ event, the record for the latter being set at an eye-watering, if not exactly mouth-watering, 22.
Elsewhere, Rothesay Primary raised a fantastic £806.25 at a bring-and-buy and book sale, while pupils at St Andrew’s Primary spent the day making their own Pudsey biscuits.
At the town’s Apple Tree Nursery, meanwhile, the day’s main Pudsey-related feature was an auction of a bewildering array of prizes, from food, drink and cosmetics to guided tours of Mount Stuart and half a day’s use of a cement mixer and tools.
The Apple Tree auction closes at 5.30pm - check back here later today for news of the winners.
