Bute Community Power plans to erect two 250kW wind turbines on land at Auchintirrie farm, near the centre of the island.

A planning application for Bute Community Power’s proposed wind project at Auchintirrie farm should be submitted in the next few days.

The ‘community benefit society’ is hoping to receive approval for two 250-kilowatt turbines, each of them 45 metres high to blade tip and with the potential to generate around £1 million for the island’s economy over 20 years.

Photo-montages for the scheme have gone on display at two information events on the island - at the Port Inn in Port Bannatyne on March 14 and at Rothesay Golf Club on March 21 - with a third to follow at Ettrick Bay Tearoom on Saturday, March 28.

Project manager Boyd Alexander told The Buteman that the aim was to submit the planning application to Argyll and Bute Council by the end of March.

Mr Alexander also told us that preparations are under way for the community share issue which BCP hopes will raise the equity required for the project, though that share issue will not happen unless and until the scheme receives planning permission.
