Argyll and Bute Council's Bute and Cowal area committee has recommended approval of a 1,000 award from its Third Sector Grants fund to the Bute Community Band - one of four applicants from the island to the latest round of the scheme.

Four organisations on Bute are set to share in a payout of £26,350 to third sector organisations in the Bute and Cowal area.

Argyll and Bute Council officials have recommended that the authority’s Bute and Cowal area committee approve the following grants to island projects:

* £3,000 to the United Church of Bute’s Pass-It-On project to supply starter packs for vulnerable groups, especially young people, obtaining first–time tenancies, and also to replace goods for older people;

* £2,000 to the Bute Advice Centre to assist in the running of the project;

* £1,000 to the Bute Community Band towards the cost of buying sheet music and uniforms;

* A £650 underwrite to Bute Agricultural Society to contribute to the cost of running its annual agricultural show and ploughing match;

The recommendations, under the council’s Third Sector Grants scheme, will be considered by the area committee at its next meeting, at Eaglesham House in Rothesay on Tuesday, April 1.
