Bute’s sports clubs are hoping to build on the success of the island’s first sport gala day by holding another community event later this year.

Around seven hundred people attended the gala day, organised by the Rothesay community sport hub, at Rothesay Joint Campus on March 23, and the clubs represented on the hub are now considering ways to build on the event’s success.

“It was an amazing day,” hub co-ordinator Jillian Gibson said at the organisation’s latest meeting. “There was such a buzz around the place for the whole two hours of the event. Hopefully we can build on that by doing something else, perhaps during the summer.”

Roddie Leitch from Bute Youth Football suggested an It’s a Knockout type of event, while Henry Tait from Rothesay Brandane AFC mentioned a ‘Ten-Tathlon’, which he said had been a great success when held on the island in the past.
