Members of a Bute slimming group have donated unwanted clothes to the value of more than a thousand pounds to the Rothesay branch of a national cancer charity.

The local Slimming World group members teamed up with Cancer Research UK to donate 30 bags of clothes they no longer need to the charity’s shop in Montague Street.

The donation is part of the Big Slimming World Clothes Throw, a nationwide fundraising drive that sees Slimming World members across the UK donating clothes to Cancer Research UK, Slimming World’s charity partner for 2013. Each bag of clothes collected could raise up to £25.

Shop manager Anna Harrison has calculated the average value of the clothes in each bag at £37, taking the total value of the donation to £1,110.

Lesley Jeffries, who leads the Rothesay group, said: “Since Cancer Research UK is one of Slimming World’s two charity partners for 2013, it’s fantastic to see our members raising pounds for the charity by losing pounds themselves.”
