A 22-month-old shorthorn bull owned by Robert and Paula McAlister of Langalbuinoch farm near Kingarth won the ‘champion of champions’ title at Bute Agricultural Society’s annual show in Rothesay on Wednesday.
Langalbuinoch Future beat off competition for the show’s top prize, the Andrew Crozier Memorial Trophy, from the champion dairy cow, a Holstein Friesian owned by Alan and Jean Kennedy of Largievrechtan; the Highland champion, a three-year-old heifer owned by Ian and Yvonne Crawford of Stuck farm; the champion sheep, a one-year-old Texel gimmer owned by Robert Currie of Westlands farm; the champion Clydesdale, a three-year-old mare shown by A. Steel and Son of Jackton near East Kilbride; Westmore Destiny, the champion light horse, owned by Laura McMillan of Ardbrannan; and Mickey, the champion donkey, owned by Alison Livingstone of Acholter.
The presentation of prizes by Mrs Ruby McFarlane, whose husband Alistair is the society’s president, crowned another successful show day on Bute on which, in stark contrast to the weather of the previous few days, the sun shone for almost the entire day.
