Bute’s contribution to the Stand Up To Cancer campaign is set to top £6,000 when the local appeal draws to a close this weekend.

The final fund-raiser in a month-long series of events features Halloween tarot readings, face painting and home baking at Cancer Research UK’s shop in Rothesay’s Montague Street this Saturday, October 31.

Shop manager and Bute Stand Up To Cancer campaign co-ordinator told us this week of several more additions to the Bute pot: £450 from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue’s Guildford Square car wash on October 24, £566 from a school holiday special offer at the Ettrick Bay Tearoom, £1,190 at a Ladies’ Night at Kingarth Hotel on Saturday, and £135 from Rothesay Joint Campus as the result of a series of events on the last day before that mid-term break.

All those contributions take the running total to £5,920 ahead of this Saturday’s event - we’ll see you there!
