The best of Bute’s flowers, fruit, vegetables, home baking, preserves, handicrafts and art were on show at Rothesay Pavilion on Saturday as Rothesay Horticultural Society’s annual show opened to the public.

This year’s trophy winners received their prizes from Argyll and Bute MSP Michael Russell, who said: “This year I’ve visited the Bute Agricultural Society show, the Bute Highland Games and the Rothesay Horticultural Society show, and all are testament to the huge community spirit that exists on this island.

“I’m not really experienced at judging anything, but I have to say these exhibits look pretty special.”

The show’s top award, the Burgh of Rothesay Challenge Trophy for the most first prizes, was shared between Mark McCormack and holder Jim Whitelaw.

The second and final day of the show is on Sunday, when the doors at the Pavilion are open from 12 noon until 4pm.
