The Bute fund-raising branch of Cancer Research UK is £700 better off this week after the proceeds of an annual quiz in aid of the charity were handed over.
Rothesay resident Robert McKirdy has been compiling a fund-raising quiz for the charity, and its predecessors, for 17 years now, and this year received entries from as far afield as Orkney and Somerset.
This week Robert presented the proceeds from the 2013 quiz, with the theme of ‘In the Garden’, to Marj Bulloch and Fiona Martin, chairperson and secretary/treasurer respectively of the Bute branch.
The winners this year, chosen from 150 all-correct entries, were Mrs M. Roberts of Lanark, Mrs I. McDermott of Rothesay and Mrs L. Newlands of Kirkgunzeon, near Dumfries.
“I would like to thank everyone who supported and gave generously to the quiz,” Robert said.
