Bute primary pupils turn art critics at Mount Stuart
Pupils from St Andrew's Primary cast their eyes over the exhibits in the 2012 Contemporary Visual Arts Programme at Mount Stuart this week.
Pupils from St Andrew’s Primary School in Rothesay turned art critics this week to cast their eyes over the four installations in Mount Stuart’s contemporary visual arts programme.
The school teamed up with Achievement Bute to organise the day-long event, in which each pupil was asked for his or her thoughts on the four exhibits - ‘A Dance of Ownership, A Song in Hand’ by Lucy Skaer and the late Gill Clarke, ‘Communion’ by Nina Danino, ‘What Is The Work Of Love Today?’ by Kate Davis and ‘Peninsula’ by Ian Bourn.
The descriptions they came up with included ‘pretty’, ‘beautiful’, ‘weird’, ‘happy’, ‘inspiring’, ‘odd’ and even ‘stormy’.
After spending some time examining each exhibit, the pupils gave our man and Mount Stuart events manager Donna Chisholm a tour of the pieces and described how they made them feel - expressing opinions which might even have made some adult visitors to the house re-assess their own view of the works!
* Meanwhile, there are two special events taking place at Mount Stuart over the next few days linked to the visual arts programme, which draws to a close for another year when the visitor season at Mount Stuart ends on October 31.
This Sunday, October 28, there’s a screening of ‘Temenos’, a full-length film by Nina Danino, whose exhibit ‘Communion’ has fascinated visitors to Mount Stuart’s spectacular marble chapel since it was opened at the end of June.
Then, on Tuesday, October 30, Ian Bourn, the creator of ‘Peninsula’, will be in conversation with James MacKay, the co-curator of this year’s visual arts programme in an event which will also include screenings of some of Bourn’s short films and will conclude with a viewing of ‘Peninsula’ itself.
Both events take place in the audio-visual theatre at the Mount Stuart visitor centre - admission is free, but space is limited, and places can be booked by calling Mount Stuart on (01700) 503877.
