Bute live music ‘will play on’ in 2013

The team behind the regular programme of quality live acoustic gigs on Bute has promised that the music will continue during 2013 - despite the departure of the driving force of the group.
Paul Templeman moved from Bute to the Borders at the turn of the year, after five years using his knowledge and wealth of musical contacts to bring artists such as Glenn Tilbrook, Rab Noakes and Dick Gaughan to play live on the island.
But Richard Snape from Transclyde Music, the group formed by Paul and other like-minded enthusiasts in 2010 to formalise the provision of live gigs on Bute and to raise funds for a larger range of productions, has told The Buteman that the programme of concerts by touring artists will continue in 2013.
“Those of us who remain here on the island have the expertise to continue the programme of events and intend to do so,” Richard said.
“Paul Templeman remains on the committee and will return for the larger events, so this is not the end of decent live music on Bute.”
Acts already confirmed for 2013 under the Transclyde banner include the Sharon Shannon Band, playing live in the magnificent Marble Hall at Mount Stuart on February 23, and Colin Hay, formerly of Men At Work, while Transclyde is awaiting confirmation of return visits from Squeeze frontman Tilbrook and Dublin singer-songwriter Eleanor McEvoy - best known for her 1992 hit ‘Only A Woman’s Heart’ - later in the year.
“We would like to thank all the people who have loyally come along to the gigs, generously bought raffle tickets and contributed to the great atmosphere,” Richard added. “We couldn’t have done it without you.
“We would also like to thank the venue hosts and staff who give up their time to support us.”
Since its formation Transclyde has organised concerts at Craigmore Bowling Club, St Paul’s Church and Mount Stuart, to name just a few local venues, and also organised the Bute International Guitar Festival in 2011.
The group also has its own PA and lighting equipment and purchased a portable stage in 2012 with help from Argyll and Bute Council’s Third Sector Fund.
