Children from around Bute spent this week picking up new skills at a ‘summer camp’ organised by the island’s community sport hub.

Put together with help from Active Schools and several of the island’s sports clubs, each day’s morning session featured coaching for the youngsters in a variety of sports, including rugby, cricket, tennis and football.

In the afternoon each day the group headed to the grounds of Mount Stuart to spend time with Jessica Herriot and Gordon Stevenson from Wood Watch Heritage Bute, learning a bit about what real outdoor living used to be like and finding out how to burn charcoal, make amulets and even how to properly toast marshmallows!
