Three members of the same Bute family combined to raise more than £2,600 for charity at the Great Scottish Run earlier this month.

Leona McAlister, her daughter Maria and her sister Pauline Murty all took part in the half-marathon in Glasgow to raise money for the Beatson Oncology Centre Fund, and thanks to sponsorship from friends, family and work colleagues they’re about to send off a cheque for £2,676.

Leona was the first of the trio to complete the 13.1 mile course in a time of one hour, 56 minutes and 37 seconds; Pauline followed in a time of 2:05:29, and Maria, in her first time competing in the event, crossed the line in a time of 2:11:43.

The Beatson Oncology Centre Fund is used to support clinical research at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre in Glasgow, the second-largest cancer treatment unit in the UK, and to provide continuing education for staff as well as contributions to the care and comfort of patients.
