Bute FM station manager leaves post

THE station manager at community radio station Bute FM has left the job less than four weeks after starting work.

Douglas Lyle, who took up his voluntary position on March 12, spoke briefly to The Buteman on Friday evening, prior to donning his alter ego as host of ‘Big Dougie’s Family Party’ at Rothesay Pavilion, to tell us that he was no longer in his post at the station.

“I decided it just wasn’t for me,” Mr Lyle said.

We invited Bute FM to comment, and received an email on Saturday afternoon which said they “haven’t been able to get in touch with Big Dougie about this yet”, but that they would let us know what was happening as soon as they made contact; we’ll update this story with any further responses when we receive them.

* Meanwhile, the station has announced the engagement of Mary Carroll as its new business development manager.

In a statement which was also released on Saturday afternoon, the station said Mrs Carroll “has demonstrated her committment to Bute FM through her voluntary contribution over the past three years.

“Mary’s local knowledge, contacts and fundraising experience is an asset to Bute FM,” the statement added, “and we look forward to her work contributing to the sustainability of the station.”
