Bute sailor George McKenzie will have his petition on the Scottish Ensign flag heard by MSPs on Inveraray on Monday.

Mr McKenzie wants to see official recognition for the flag - the same as the Merchant Navy’s famous Red Ensign, but with the Union flag element replaced by the cross of St Andrew.

His petition will be considered by the Scottish Parliament’s public petitions committee at the Inveraray Inn (formerly the Argyll Hotel) on September 7 from 2pm.

Monday’s meeting will also include discussion on two previously-submitted petitions - one seeking long-term improvements to the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful, and one calling for the preservation and restoration of the Tinker’s Heart monument, recently declared a site of historical significance following a campaign taken forward by the committee.

Members of the public are welcome to attend Monday’s meeting, which will conclude with a Q&A session giving the public a chance to ask the committee’s members about their work.
