Bute farmer ‘suffered enough’ over son’s death

BUTE dairy farmer Charles McAlister was admonished at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday after admitting causing the death of his nine-year-old son Robert in a quad bike accident earlier this year.

Sheriff Neil Douglas said Mr McAlister had suffered enough from carrying the guilt and constant torment after the tragedy, which happened at the family’s Mid Ascog farm on May 2.

A spokesperson for the health and safety division of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said it had decided to press ahead with the prosecution because of the deaths of 45 children in quad biking accidents in the UK in the last ten years.
