Bute Community Links has issued an appeal for more volunteers amid an ongoing cash shortage which has seen the organisation’s only paid employee work without a wage for 15 months.
Administrative assistant Helen Jean Pearson, who has been employed by BCL for the last 12 years, was last paid in early 2012, but has continued to work for the organisation, providing administrative support to a range of small-scale charity and voluntary projects on the island, without pay.
BCL’s acting chief executive, Bill McQueen, said: “We need someone who can come in and clearly identify channels of possible funding, because I don’t know how to do that.”
Helen Jean added: “I keep coming in because I care - it’s as simple as that - but there’s only so long you can keep going on.”
