Bute bird book is officially launched

Ron Forrester, Dougie Menzies and Ian Hopkins, the three authors of The Birds of Bute, at the book's launch.

A brand new book describing Bute’s bird life in fascinating detailhas been officially launched.

The Birds of Bute, written by Ron Forrester, Dougie Menzies and Ian Hopkins, runs to 360 full colour pages, and its professional design, hardback cover and 171 photographs of the island’s bird life should ensure it wins a readership far wider than dedicated ornithologists alone.

Among those present at the launch of the book at Bute Museum on Saturday was Ian Gibson from the Scottish Ornithologists Club, joint publishers of the book with the Buteshire Natural History Society.

“I was last on Bute 47 years ago,” Mr Gibson admitted, “but I have many fond memories of the island, and this book will certainly stimulate me to return soon, and the SOC is very pleased to have been able to help in its production.”
