The Bute and Cowal Credit Union has added a new ‘junior saver’ membership to its range of services, allowing the organisation to help under-16s with savings and money management.

The new service has been added at the request of BCCU’s members, who are now almost four hundred in number - among them 47 who have joined in Cowal since the organisation’s new office in Dunoon opened in May 2014.

BCCU’s annual meeting, held in Rothesay this week, heard that the organisation issued £128,638 in loans during 2013-14, and that the amount saved with the union totalled £214,952 as of September 30.

The credit union’s secretary, Brian Balmain, said: “The numbers and competence of directors, committee members and general staff will continue to be kept under review to ensure that the needs of the credit union and regulatory requirements are met.”

BCCU’s Rothesay office, at 5 King Street, is open to the public on Tuesdays from 10.30am to 1.30pm, and on Saturdays from 10am to 12.30pm.
