Staff at Rothesay’s Co-operative supermarket raised more than £2,000 for charity in a 24-hour sponsored ‘spin’.

When we visited shortly after 8am on July 24, Linda McDade and Glenda Shields were taking their turns on the two exercise bikes provided for the occasion, with plenty of motivating music in the background to spur them on.

The event was the Rothesay shop’s contribution to a nationwide effort by the Co-operative Group’s staff throughout the day - as deputy manager Lyndsey Speirs put it during our visit, “a 24/7 effort on 24/7” - to raise money for the group’s charity partner for 2013, the Carers Trust.

The final total was £2,058.28, and Lynsey added: “Our thanks to all the store’s staff and customers for supporting us.”
