Rothesay’s Co-operative Food supermarket is to receive a refit in the new year as the company prepares for the arrival in the town of a new Tesco Express.
Regional operations manager Joe Kerr told a public meeting at the Pavilion on Thursday that the refit of the Bridge Street store would take place during January and February of 2015.
Asked by one member of the audience, Ellen Cromack from Kilchattan Bay, if the refit plan was being driven by Tesco’s impending arrival in the town, Mr Kerr admitted: “It helps. Rothesay will be the first store of this size to get this refit.
“Tesco is a challenge for us, but it’s an opportunity for us to show people in Rothesay that we’re listening to them, looking after them and not ripping them off.”
Tesco’s long-rumoured arrival in Rothesay was confirmed in June, when a spokesperson for the supermarket giant said a new Tesco Express store, to be located on the ground floor of a new building currently under construction in a former gap site in Guildford Square, would open early in the new year.
