The children and staff of Apple Tree Nursery held a very special picnic on Wednesday to celebrate local food producers , learn about food sustainability, and to enjoy some tasty treats, in the process!

The One Planet Picnic, part of the Keep Scotland Beautiful charity, provides inspiration for trying sustainable food at work, at school, in communities and at home.

When we caught up with the children at Apple Tree Nursery they were just about to tuck into some delicious offerings ranging from vegetables from Mount Stuart, produce from Ritchie’s of Rothesay, and fresh milk from McAlister’s, in addition to a selection of other goodies supplied by friends and family of the nursery.

As well as being an opportunity to try new things and learn about where our food comes from, the nursery is hoping their efforts might tip the balance in their favour in the One Planet Picnic prize draw.
