A student from Glasgow Clyde College is set to spend two weeks working alongside Bute Fabrics this summer after triumphing in a design competition.

Jenna Brown, who is in her second year of studying for a BA (Hons) in textiles, specialising in woven textiles, will spend her summer undertaking a paid internship with the renowned island company at its Rothesay mill.

Jenna, who would like to pursue a career in the fashion industry, said: “Lots of students took part in the competition and all the work that was submitted was amazing so I was shocked when I was told I’d been selected as the winner.

“The brief was to design a woven sample that could be used as an upholstery fabric, based on a Nordic Coast theme.

“I put forward several pieces of work, including photographs, course drawings and weave designs, and I’m so excited to have won. We actually got to visit the mill for a tour as part of our course so it will be amazing to go back and actually spend time working there.”
