The company considering setting up two fish farms off the coast of Bute is holding two ‘information events’ on the aquaculture industry on Monday and Tuesday of this week.

The Scottish Salmon Company’s drop-in events are taking place at Rothesay Pavilion on Monday, April 27 from 4pm to 9pm, and on Tuesday, April 28, from 10am to 9pm.

The company, which already operates fish farm sites at Ardyne and Loch Striven and in locations up and down Scotland’s west coast, is assessing the suitability of sites at St Ninian’s Bay, off the west coast of the island, and White Port, between Kilchattan Bay and Glencallum Bay in the south-east, for possible aquaculture development.

The Scottish Salmon Company’s managing director, Craig Anderson, told The Buteman earlier this month that the company was keen to engage with the community on Bute on its proposals, which have yet to be the subject of a formal planning application.
