Argyll and Bute Council has accepted an offer from an as-yet-unnamed developer to buy a notorious gap site in the centre of Rothesay.

The authority’s Bute and Cowal area committee agreed this week to accept the offer for the purchase and development of the gap site in Guildford Square, which has lain empty since the 1980s.

The subject was considered in private, but afterwards Bute councillor Robert Macintyre, who chairs the committee, confirmed that an offer had been made and accepted for the site - a key part of the Rothesay Townscape Heritage Initiative’s attempts to breathe new life into the town centre.
