A group of visitors from Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Bavaria, Germany, during a trip to Scotland stopped off at Rothesay on Wednesday afternoon, taking the opportunity to see the town with which their home has strong links.

The group are actually students, learning English back home in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, under the tuition of Marjory Friedl, who arrived in Edinburgh on Sunday.

The group have been travelling throughout Argyll and Bute since then, including visits to Oban and Mull, with a journey to Dunoon also planned.

A relationship between the towns of Sulzbach-Rosenberg and Rothesay was developed after Rothesay Academy’s Concert Band made the journey to the German town over a number of years - the last being in the summer of 1999 under the direction of instrumental instructor Lee Benstead.

The group were being escorted by George and June McKenzie during their stay in Rothesay, with Councillor Len Scoullar offering a warm welcome to the visitors at Rothesay Castle .

Ian Sinclair and Bert Alexander offered a historical perspective on the castle which appeared to be thoroughly enjoyed by the group.
