Gillian McMillan from Bute Junior Agricultural Club has been crowned ‘Miss Young Farmer’ for the west of Scotland.

Gillian, a former BJAC secretary, was among the participants in the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs’ ‘Mr and Miss’ competition and dance for the west of Scotland region, held in Lanark on Saturday.

More than 450 people attended the event, with Gillian, a past BJAC secretary, taking first place ahead of Mhairi Lake of Carluke and Katie Austin from Lower Nithsdale.

The ‘Mr Young Farmer’ competition saw William McJannet, the chairman of Ayr’s Young Farmers Club, placed first, with Stuart Rankin (Stirling, Strathendrick and Strathkelvin) second and Simon McCornic (Machars) third.
