Talks over a merger of Bute FM and Radio Bute appear to have stalled after Radio Bute members rejected the idea.

A bid to merge Bute’s two radio stations has faltered this week – despite “positive and encouraging” talks between the two organisations.

Representatives of Bute FM and Radio Bute have held discussions over a possible merger of the two stations, which went on air in July 2009 and July 2012 respectively – the former on FM and online, the latter on the internet only - but members of Radio Bute have decided not to proceed with a merger.

Peter Wallace from Radio Bute said: “Representatives of Radio Bute and Bute FM have met over recent weeks, and discussed how the island is served by community radio.

“While these talks have been both positive and encouraging, our members did not feel that closer integration of the two organisations was possible in the current circumstances. We are however confident of a better working relationship between us going forward.”
