Bute ploughman Tom McMillan and his Clydesdale horses Jock and Lauren won a host of prizes at the Scottish Ploughing Championships in Wick recently.

Tom, Jock and Lauren made the long journey north from Eskechraggan, near Rothesay, to Stanstill Farm at Bower, and got off to a fine start in the two-day event, taking second place in the broken furrow category with 142 points.

Things got even better for the trio on the second and final day, though: they finished first in the ‘whole furrow’ class with 125.5 points, took the most points over the two days with a total of 267.5, and won no fewer than five prizes - horse champion; best crown/feering, straightness and finish over two

days; best harness and decorations; best gelding; and best mare. Congratulations!
