Rothesay building contractor George Hanson has confirmed that he is the new owner of the dilapidated former Royal Hotel in the centre of the town.

As we reported on this site on Saturday, the building, on the corner of Albert Place, Bishop Street and West Princes Street, was sold at an auction in Glasgow on October 29 as part of the sequestration of the assets of its previous owner, the late George Hart.

Mr Hanson told The Buteman: “My main reason for purchasing the property was that it possibly could have fallen into the wrong hands with a chance of jeopardizing all the good work that has been going on in Rothesay by the THI, especially in Guilford Square and the town in general over the past few years.”
