The Ayrshire cow owned by James McAlister of Bruchag, and shown by his nephew Ian McAlister. was named Champion of Champions at this year’s Bute Agricultural Society annual show.

A large number of competitors took part, with many exhibitors travelling great distances to show their livestock at the public park, and the rain held off just until the presentation of prizes took place, with Ruby McFarlane doing the honours.

There was much to see and do at the show, from the ever-popular Drakes of Hazard dog and duck show (which drew quite a crowd), to young dancers from the Margaret-Anne Speirs School of Dance.

Compered by Douglas ‘Big Dougie’ Lyle, visitors were kept abreast of all the events and their results, and made for a fantastic day.

* Full results and photos will be published in next week’s Buteman - on sale on August 22.
