The manager of Bute’s independent citizens’ advice service retired this week after eight years in the post.

Gordon Sutherland, who took over as manager of Bute Advice Centre in 2005, received a presentation from Bill McQueen, who chairs the centre’s management committee, at a special lunch held at the Mount Stuart visitor centre restaurant, attended by the centre’s staff, volunteers and committee members.

Bute Advice Centre provides advice, information and support on housing, homelessness and evictions, employment and financial issues, including money management and debt counselling.

Julie Semple, previously the centre’s assistant manager, has replaced Mr Sutherland in the manager’s post.

“I want to say how grateful I am to all the staff, volunteers and committee members at the centre, and to everyone who supports our work, for all their help over the years,” he said.
