DEVELOPING strong links with Bute’s businesses will be a key priority for Bute’s new local development officer, Nina Graham.
Nina, who has owned a holiday home in Port Bannatyne for five years, is now living full time on the island after being appointed to the post, which is funded through Highlands and Islands Enterprise and sees Nina working under the auspices of the island’s tourism and marketing organisation, VisitBute.
“We’re looking at how to take that forward and develop strong links with the business community,” Nina told The Buteman, “because I think we’re all aware that businesses on the island need as much exposure as possible.
“One of the first things I’ve been doing is speaking to Business Gateway about getting free workshops for the island’s local businesses.
“We’ll also be looking at social media and e-commerce generally - the free tools that give businesses as much exposure as possible.”
Nina’s predecessor in the LDO post, Ciara Wilson, drew up a community development plan for the island which will continue to inform much of her successor’s work.
“My job is an 18 month post,” Nina added, “and, for me, I need to be as productive as possible. So we’re looking at the community development plan to see what’s viable and can be taken forward in the short term, as well as looking at the long-term options.”
