The Kyles of Bute Community Broadband Group is working to provide better broadband facilities in areas of Bute, Colintraive, Glendaruel and Tighnabruaich not covered by the BT/Highlands and Islands Enterprise roll-out.

Three community groups hoping to improve broadband services on either side of the Kyles of Bute hope to start talks with potential business partners this month.

The Kyles of Bute Community Broadband project, comprising the Bute Rural Community Broadband Group and development trusts in Tighnabruaich and district and in Colintraive and Glendaruel, wants to bring better broadband to sparsely-populated areas not covered by the spread of BT’s high-speed fibre service.

The project has been accepted by Community Broadband Scotland for project planning funding, under the leadership of the Colintraive and Glendaruel Development Trust.

As part of the project, community meetings are to take place in each area in January to make sure that as many people as possible are able to consider suggested solutions and ensure they fully meet local needs.

The Bute meeting will take place at the Kingarth Hotel on Wednesday, January 13 at 7.30pm, with events in Tighnabruaich and Glendaruel following on Sunday, January 17.
