Ascog development plan is approved

Planning permission has been renewed for a proposed development of houses and flats in Ascog.

Members of Argyll and Bute Council’s planning, protective services and licensing committee gave the green light to an application to renew permission for eight flats and two detached houses at Southpark, on the southern edge of Rothesay.

Permission for the development was granted in 2007, but lapsed this summer under to the statutory condition that work should begin within five years of the original permission being granted.

The application for renewal attracted objections from 30 sources on grounds including the impact on neighbouring properties and the surrounding wildlife, but the committee agreed with planning officers’ recommendation that renewal be granted, subject to eight conditions, as a ‘minor departure’ from the affordability requirements of the Argyll and Bute Local Plan.
