The Co-operative supermarket in Rothesay's Bridge Street is to receive a 1 million revamp this autumn.

The promised refurbishment of Rothesay’s Co-operative supermarket WILL go ahead - and it will happen in the next few weeks.

Staff from the Bridge Street store unveiled details of the refurbishment at the ‘community fair’ which formed part of Rothesay Pavilion’s Closing Weekend Festival.

The £1 million refurbishment will see the store given a new layout, with the current ‘kiosk’ relocated, and the installation of new self-service tills.

The store will remain open throughout the refurbishment work, which will begin on October 19 and is due to be completed by December 3.

The company attracted criticism from some Bute shoppers in July when a spokesperson declined to say when - or even whether - a revamp promised last year would be going ahead.

Between that pledge being made and our July story, rival firm Tesco shelved plans to open an Express store in Guildford Square.
