Buteman reader Mrs Gertie Reynolds contacted us recently to ask us to raise awareness of a potential bogus call operating in the area.

In addition to the police warning we published on Friday relating to a potential phone scam operating within Argyll and Bute, we received word recently from an island resident after she received what she believed was a bogus call.

Mrs Gertie Reynolds contacted The Buteman on Thursday afternoon after she was phoned at her home by a company offering her a service which would write-off any debt she had.

Suspicious, Mrs Reynolds asked for the name of the company and was told ‘The Money Team’ in Cardiff, but upon asking for an actual address, the caller hung up.

Fortunately, by the time we called the number supplied by Mrs Reynolds on Friday, a recorded message informed us that “This phone number has been suspended on the request of the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau.”

If you believe that you may have been affected by this, or any other fraudulent activity, you can contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 for further advice.
