A volunteer group set up to get Bute ready for the Beautiful Scotland judges’ annual visit to the island is to replace a decaying and unsightly fence in the centre of Rothesay.

Bute in Bloom is to replace the fence in Montague Street, opposite the Original Factory Shop and Superdrug, in time for the judges’ visit in early August.

Group secretary and Bute community councillor Iain Gillespie told BCC’s April meeting this week that the work would go ahead after the group received a “very good price” from Bute Forest for the timber required, along with help from the island’s three Argyll and Bute councillors and a local trader.

The Bute in Bloom members meet every month to co-ordinate both Rothesay’s Beautiful Scotland entry and wider community efforts to brighten up the island as a whole.
