The winning entries in the annual BikeSafeBute cycle safety competition have been announced.

Children from all three of the island’s pre-5 education facilities and at all three Bute primary schools entered the art competition, which aims to promote cycling safety among both young people and adults.

The winners each received £15 vouchers for two local businesses, Print Point and The Bike Shed, while each school also received £50 to be used on goods aimed at promoting safe cycling.

The judging panel comprised representatives from Strathclyde Police, Print Point and Bute Community Council, as well as members of the BikeSafeBute organising committee.

Two winners - one senior and one junior - were chosen from each of the three local primaries, Rothesay, North Bute and St Andrew’s, while there was also one winner at each pre-5 establishment - Rothesay Primary Pre-5, Rothesay Playgroup and Apple Tree Nursery.

The winners were as follows.

Apple Tree Nursery - Mackenzie Dunn.

Rothesay Playgroup - Libby Campbell.

Rothesay Primary Pre-5 - Amy McDowall.

St Andrew’s Primary - Christopher O’Donnell (junior), Lindsay Hendry (senior).

Rothesay Primary - Jessica Timms (junior), Kianna Zavaroni (senior).

North Bute - Erin McKirdy (junior), Nicola McClymont (senior).

The winners will receive their prizes on Monday, June 25 - just in time to make use of them at the start of the summer holidays!
