The two ferries which serve the Isle of Bute - MV Bute and MV Argyle - participated in berthing trials at Wemyss Bay yesterday (Sunday, March 20), ahead of the re-opening of the pier following major works.

The photo above, supplied by Greg Beecroft of Skelmorlie, shows MV Argyle successfully berthing at the pier on Sunday afternoon. Greg says: “‘Bute’ was there in the morning and ‘Argyle’ in the afternoon. Both vessels first berthed bow on, as usual, but then went off the pier and returned to berth stern on.”

Wemyss Bay pier is set to re-open to ferry traffic on Friday, March 25, following a six month closure for essential repairs, including replacement of timber fenders, reconstruction of the pier end, dredging of the harbour, and refurbishment of the linkspan.

All work has been carried out by harbour owner, Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL).
