Rothesay resident Joe Johnstone has spoken to The Buteman about the reality of life as a Bute kidney dialysis patient.

Joe, who turned 53 on Christmas Day, is one of four dialysis patients who travels from Bute to Greenock every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the treatment, “It’s ruined my life,” Joe told us.

“When you’re on the machines, it leaves you totally drained, and when you get home you feel dizzy and sick.

“Sometimes you’re not right until about dinner time the following day - and then you’re getting ready to go back again the day after.

“It takes over your whole life.”
