Bute Community Council has pledged to offer financial support to the Bute in Bloom team following on from last week’s news that the island is a finalist in the 2016 Britain in Bloom competition.

The community group was selected from more than six hundred entrants to take part in the national competition, and is one of only five Scottish communities to make it through to the finals.

At Wednesday’s meeting of Bute Community Councillor, Bute in Bloom team member and community councillor, Iain Gillespie, told those present: “It is a great honour for the island and we will be starting to put bits and pieces forward for this year to ramp up our efforts a bit, but it depends on what we can get by way of donations.”

BCC treasurer, Don Williams, recommended that the community council make a donation from their current balance of £3164.13 towards the group.

It was agreed that Mr Gillespie would make enquiries and return to BCC when costs were better known.
