The organisers of the annual Baird of Bute Day have announced that they have been forced to cancel this year's event.

The Baird of Bute Society is disappointed to announce it is unable to hold its seventh annual Baird aviation-oriented Day which had been planned for Saturday, September 10.

The organisers told The Buteman that insurance and public safety considerations, significantly influenced by the 2015 Shoreham Air Show tragedy, have presented obstacles that could not be overcome in time to allow it to comfortably go forward.

To address the specifics of appropriately continuing to offer the Day in its traditional two locations, the Baird of Bute Society has created a separate entity - Baird of Bute Events Ltd, distinct from the Society.

It will endeavour to satisfy all insurance and regulatory requirements, and will focus itself on the annual Day and other public events that promote the mission of the Society to inspire the youth of Scotland to aspire to achievement in their lives.

The annual Baird of Bute Society Awards Dinner will be held on Friday, September 9, in Rothesay to celebrate the 2016 recipients of its Scottish Aviation and Scottish Innovation Awards, and to recognise the young Scots who have participated in the Society’s international and national scholarships in 2016.

Planning is already underway to assure that the Baird of Bute Day festivities will return in September 2017.
